McDonald's
McDonald's is the most popular restaurant in the UK. The
name has become famous with many people over this term. The prefix at the start
of the name originates from Ireland and Scotland which suggests that most of
their produce comes from the UK. The
prefix also carries through to their
tasty range of food in the restaurants with the famous ice cream called
the "McFlurry". This demonstrates to us the catchy theme within the
franchise.
Pizza Hut
This restaurant, when it first opened only had one meaning
which was in its title "pizza" which obviously tells us that there
will be lots of pizza to select from at the diner. "Hut" implies that
this is a very family based franchise due to the term hut defining that
everyone is together when eating, this is a term which can have a different
meaning. The main target audience for this restaurant has always been families
so the simple title reflects this.
Burger King
Burger King is a very simple title which reflects the
simplicity in the fast food service. "Burger King" in many eyes says
what it does on the tin, as they believe that their burgers are the best which
they can provide. "King" suggests a term that it is on top and looks
down upon everyone which the company is trying to tell their customers. As this
attracts them as they believe that it is the best they can get.
Bella Italia
This restaurant has many different meanings in the title
with the complex Italian theme, which implies to many that this is a franchise
which is for the older generation. "Bella" in Italian means
"Beauty" which has a very define meaning on the restaurant which
gives it a "elite" tone. When the two words in the title are put
together to make "Beauty Italian" it really shows that this
restaurant is very high up in the pecking order. The more mature title explains
to the target audience that it is the best quality there is in the area.
Subway
The term "sub" implies that there is a alternative
route to fast food with it taking pride in its freshness and quality of food,
this gives many customers a refreshing taste rather that the other food
available. The suffix at the end, "way" also suggests that there is a
different way to eat food in a more healthy environment.
Gregg's
The simple title of the chain refers to the founder of the
company which tells us as customers that the food in which the sell is very
simple but is completed very well. This also explains that the target market of
the industry is very large as they do not specifically state in the title any
fancy terms or persuasive lexis.
Kentucky Fried Chicken "KFC"
This franchise has been around in the world for a very long
time and was most famously known in its original origin in the title
"Kentucky". This also demonstrates in the name that they have not
still lost their original theme from home and that Kentucky will always be with
them. Many other companies try to have the same name as this brand as like
"SFC" do this is because that they are using the same sort of name
which has become catch with the public.
"Spud u
Like"
This a small chain restaurant that is starting to become
more popular with it’s very "slang term". We are able to recognize
that this restaurant has just started due to its slang in the name which has
started to become more apparent in the recent times of society. This is proven
with its first term "spud" as it is slang for Potatoes which gives it
a more "Teenage feel" for the target market.
Starbucks and Costa Coffee
These two franchises are leading in the coffee market in
2015, with the title being very blunt and catchy this makes customers feel
enticed into the product. In my opinion i think that the titles are purposely
short so they are able to fit on the small cups which are provided to the
customers, if the title was long it would block the cup and make it feel bulky,
YO Sushi
This is a fast food Japanese chain that is obviously
recognizable by its foreign theme, The "Sushi" part of the text demonstrates
to the market that they specialize in Asian cuisine, this also makes it easily
understandable. The target market has a wider range due to it catchy theme
which entices customers. But the main reason is because the title is very short
and snappy so many young children will feel comfortable expressing their
opinions on it.
Black Rock Grill
For this company, the title really enfacies the theme inside
the Grill. The term "Black" makes us think that the diner is very
dark themed which the target market will apply more to the older generation as
there is no attractiveness in this title which stands out, This also links in
with the way that the food is prepared, so it tells you what is available from
the title, which gives a very simplistic view.
Chicken Cottage
The name “Chicken Cottage” for a restaurant is very clever
as the Animal “Chicken” is emphasised in the title. With that word included,
its tells its audience that this is the main food which they sell in the chain,
but when the two words are put together, I interpret that they are trying to
tell us that the food is all clean and not processed as we refer a cottage to a
nice, enclosure where the chicks are able to live. It also gives as the feeling
of “warmth” in the restaurant with the hot meat available.
Little Chef
The title of this English cuisine demonstrates to many that this is a restaurant for people with different age ranges and tastes. The lexis "Little" composes that it can be a restaurant for many young children to enjoy. The term "Chef" is a adult term for cook which tells us that the adult will understand the terminology but a child will not. Which explains that this is a restaurant for young and old.
